Invited lecture by Dr Justin Carrard at the 2024 American College of Sports Medicine Annual Meeting in Boston (USA)
At the 70th Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), Dr Justin Carrard from the team of Prof Dr Arno Schmidt-Trucksäss (Division of Sports and Exercise Medicine, Department of Sport, Exercise and Health) was invited by Prof Dr David C. Nieman to give a lecture on «Diagnosing Overtraining Syndrome».
It was an honour for Dr Justin Carrard to be an invited speaker at the 2024 ACSM Annual Meeting in Boston (MA, USA). For the first time, he had the opportunity to present one of his favourite topics to an international audience: how to diagnose overtraining syndrome. Specifically, he presented the results of his review paper «Diagnosing Overtraining Syndrome», published in the journal «Sports Health» in 2022. He used his clinical expertise on this syndrome to contextualise these results.
The exchange with the other speakers and experts Prof David Nieman (chair), Dr Trent Stellingwerff, Prof Jeremy Ross, but also with the audience (among the listeners was Prof Romain Meeusen from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, who is probably the best expert on the overtraining syndrome worldwide) on this complex but fascinating topic of the overtraining syndrome was both an educational experience and a unique opportunity to create the basis for future international cooperation!

Zum 70. Annual Meeting des American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) wurde Dr. Justin Carrard aus dem Team von Prof. Dr. Arno Schmidt-Trucksäss (Bereich Sport- und Bewegungsmedizin, Departement für Sport, Bewegung und Gesundheit) von Prof. Dr. David C. Nieman eingeladen, um einen Vortrag zum Thema «Diagnosing Overtraining Syndrome» zu halten.
Für Dr. Justin Carrard war es eine Ehre, als eingeladener Redner an der ACSM-Jahrestagung 2024 in Boston (MA, USA) teilzunehmen. Zum ersten Mal hatte er die Gelegenheit, vor einem internationalen Publikum über eines seiner Lieblingsthemen zu referieren: Wie kann man das Übertrainingssyndrom diagnostizieren. Konkret stellte er die Ergebnisse seiner Übersichtsarbeit «Diagnosing Overtraining Syndrome» vor, die 2022 in der Zeitschrift «Sports Health» veröffentlicht wurde.
Der Austausch mit den anderen Vortragenden und Experten Prof. Dr. David Nieman (Vorsitz), Dr. Trent Stellingwerff, Prof. Jeremy Ross aber auch mit dem Publikum – unter den Zuhörern befand sich unter anderen Prof. Dr. Romain Meeusen von der Vrije Universiteit Brussel, der wohl beste Experte für das Übertrainingssyndrom weltweit – war eine einzigartige Gelegenheit, die Basis für zukünftige internationale Zusammenarbeit zu schaffen.
